If I had a soulmate workout, it would be Focus T25!  After all my soulmate fitness trainer is Shaun T!  Focus T25 took my fitness to a whole new level and in less time!  Like the title says, each workout is only 25 minutes!  Crazy!  But don’t let that time fool you into thinking that it’s an easy workout.  Nope, it’s he real deal!

What is Focus T25?t25 alpha

Focus T25 is a 10 week program divided into cycles; alpha and beta- each lasting 5 weeks.  So how is it so effective in only 25 minutes?  Shaun T took out all of the rests in this program so you are working hard for 25 minutes straight!  The moves are all dynamic and high intensity designed for maximum efficiency and effectiveness.  If you are tired of spending an hour to an hour and a half working out, you are short on time, have a busy schedule-this is the program for you!  It won’t be easy but the results speak for themselves!T25_Week1_Day7_image

Why I love T25

So, I fell quickly in love with this program and Shaun T for many reasons.  First of all, I love the idea of getting an incredible workout, a serious sweat and calorie burner in only 25 minutes!  I mean, I am a mom of 3 kids who are involved in everything so I stay busy!  When I started doing the workouts, they were tough but manageable, especially with the modifier there when I needed to follow her.  I loved that I was burning lots of calories and strengthening my entire body with the focus always on my core.  As for Shaun T, I find him to be one of the most motivating trainers.  He has a way of getting you to do things that you didn’t think you could.  Like getting in your head and making you push through when you think you can’t go any further!  He is both tough and gentle.  When I am doing his workouts, I swear that he is talking right to me!  I love it!!

PiYo

PIYO was my first real love with Beachbody!  The 21 Day Fix got me started in the right direction, taught me portion control, proper nutrition and gave me the workout variety I needed and wanted.  But when I first tried Piyo, I fell in love!!  First of all, Chalene Johnson is one of the most motivating people, in my opinion.  You can’t help but feel like she is talking directly to you and her words are so genuine.  Secondly, the workouts are for anyone, any fitness level and any age.  And no equipment is required except maybe a yoga mat.

What is PiYo?

PiYo is what I like to describe as a mixture of Pilates and Yoga but on steroids.
That’s probably not the best description and sounds a little intimidating but it’s also kind of true.  What PiYo can offer you, is a way to get your physique intensely carved out without the weights, without the jumps, and without straining your joints.  It is a low impact but hight intensity workout that incorporates the most effective Pilates and yoga inspired moves set to a fast pace.  This helps you to burn fat while carving out those lean muscles.

piyo-pike-a-700_4Rest assured there is nothing complex about the moves in PiYo and Chalene Johnson does an amazing job of talking you through each move while demonstrating proper techniques.  There is also a modifier that you can follow for those who aren’t quite ready to do all the poses or moves in this workout.

I think PiYo is so affective because it takes the strength of Pilates and combines it with the flexibility involved in Yoga to make the ultimate workout.  You would be amazed at how sculpted your body can become by using your own body weight as resistance.  Since my days of doing PiYo regularly, I have grown to enjoy adding weight lifting to my regime.  That being said, I always love coming back to PiYo because, face it, we all need to be stretched out sometimes and sometimes you need a break from the heavy lifting.  Also, after doing PiYo for about 3 months, I began to notice definition in my arms, something, I NEVER had before.  So, I can assure you that using your own body to sculpt your body is very affective especially for those who may have had injuries, knee problems, back problems, etc.

Piyo and running

PiYo is a great workout to pair with running, especially when training for a race.  The long muscle fibers used while stretching in Piyo will help improve your running stride.  Of course, It’s also always important to do strength training while running which you will get plenty of while doing PiYo. I have personally used this program when training for races in the past and loved the combination.

The 21 Day Fix

The 21 day fix was the start to my Beachbody experience so it holds a place near and dear to my heart.  After trying many other workouts and getting back into running, I still wasn’t able to drop that last 10 pounds of baby weight from baby number 3.  Enter the 21 Day Fix!   In my firsts 21 days of this program I was able to lose the entire 10 pounds and felt great!  I’m not saying it was easy, but it was obviously worth it.

Why I love this program

Here is why I love this program and why it’s the number one program that I recommend to my challengers;  It wasn’t the exercises that helped me get that last 10 pounds off, though they obviously helped.  The big game changer for me was nutrition.  I thought I knew what healthy eating was but I was wrong.  Not only that but my portions were way off!  I was eating too much of the wrong foods and not enough of the right ones.  Most people struggle with nutrition which is why I like to recommend this program so much.  quick start 21df

The 21 Day Fix program comes with an eating plan that sets you up for success without making you starve or even have to completely give up all of your favorite foods!  Did you know you can drink wine on this plan??  😉  The basis of the eating plan teaches us portion control.  It comes with these amazing, cute, little colored containers that we use to measure our foods.  Each color represents a different food group, i.e. Green for veggies, purple for fruits, red for proteins, etc.  So how do you know how many containers to eat each day??  Easy!  The nutrition guide comes with an easy formula to help you figure that out.  It will tell you exactly how many of each container you should be eating a day.  There is even a list of approved foods for each color container.  And on top of that, Autumn Calabrese shares some of her favorite and easy to follow recipes!  So, all you have to do is measure your foods using the containers (which are perfect for on taking on the go!) and enjoy!

The workouts

What I love about the workouts in this program is the variety!  I am one that gets bored easily with workouts.  Sunday through Saturday are different workouts including pilates, yoga, cardio, and weight lifting.  You will work your entire body in each of these workouts!  One of the reasons I recommend this program so often is that the workouts include a modifier so that anyone can do these moves.  Even if you haven’t worked out before, if you follow the modifier, you can make it through.  The best part????  They are all only 30 minutes!!!  That’s right, 30 minutes of exercise that is sure to get your body into shape.  Pair that with the meal plan and you are sure to be successful!

Balsamic Roasted Veggies

I know Brussel Sprouts aren’t everyone’s favorite veggie but they have always been mine!  Of course, I grew up with my mother making them by boiling them and melting a slice of American cheese over top.  I guess whatever works to get your kids to eat their vegetables, right!?  Well, I have found a better way!  These Balsamic Roasted veggies are delicious and you can add any vegetable you’d like to the mix!  Today, I roasted Brussel sprounts and carrots to go with my pasta dinner.  They were delicious!

Balsamic Roasted Veggies

Ingredients

  • Cooking spray
  • 1/2 pound Brussel Sprouts, brown ends trimmed off and cut in half
  • 4 medium carrots, peeled and sliced
  • Any other veggie of your choosing
  • 3 Tbsp balsamic vinegar
  • 3 tsp EVOO
  • 2 Tbsp Fresh chopped rosemary
  • 2 tsp dried rosemary
  • 2 cloves fresh garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp pepper
  • 1/4 tsp salt

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 375
  2. Spray 9 x13 baking dish with cooking spray
  3. Thoroughly wash all vegetables, cut and toss together in a large bowl
  4. In a small bowl, whisk together vinegar, oil, rosemary, garlic, onion powder, pepper and salt.  Pour over vegetable mixture and toss well.
  5. Pour vegetable mixture into prepared baking dish.  Bake in preheated oven for about 30 minutes, stirring once, until all vegetables pierce easily with a fork.

Easy Chicken Fajitas

Oh I how I love chicken fajitas!  You know that I love anything that is easy and that you can make your own.  Fajitas are great because you can change it up by using shrimp, beef or chicken and switching up what vegetables you add in it.  Today, I am going to share with you a very easy chicken fajita that I like to make.  Feel free to take control and make it your own!

Easy Chicken Fajitas

Easy Chicken Fajitas

Ingredients

  • 1 tsp chile powder
  • 1/2 tsp sea salt
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 2 tsp extra virgin olive oil
  • 2 raw chicken breasts, boneless, skinless, cut into 1/2 inch strips
  • 1 medium red bell pepper cut into strips
  • 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 TBSP fresh lie juice
  • 8 (6 in) corn (or whole wheat) tortillas, warm
  • 1/2 medium avocado
  • fresh salsa
  • Lime wedges

Directions:

  1. Combine chili powder, salt, cumin, garlic poder, and 1 tsp oil in large resealable plastic bag
  2. Add chicken, bell pepper, and onion; mix gently to coat. Refrigerate for 15 minutes
  3. Heat remaining 1 tsp oil in large nonstick skillet over medium-high heat
  4. Empty contents of bag into skillet and cook, stirring frequently for 5-6minutes or until chicken is cooked through
  5. Remove from heat; add lime juice
  6. Serve with tortillas, avocado, salsa and lime wedges.

Container equivalents:  1 Yellow, 1 Red, 1/2 Green, 1/2 Blue, 1/2 Tsp

Healthy Turkey Chili

Nothing says winter like hot chili!  We all have our favorite chili recipe to make when it gets cold outside but I wanted to share with you one of my favorite healthy versions, Turkey Chili.  It’s easy, delicious and 21 Day Fix approved so you can’t go wrong with this!  If you are trying to start the new year off on the right foot with your health, go ahead and try this Healthy Turkey Chili!  You won’t be sorry.  🙂

Healthy Turkey Chili

Healthy Turkey Chili

Ingredients

  • 1 tsp olive oil
  • 11/2 lbs ground turkey
  • 1 medium white onion
  • 1 medium bell pepper (I used yellow)
  • 3 garlic cloves, finely chopped
  • 11/2 tsp ground cumin
  • 1 TBSP chili powder
  • 1/2 tsp sea salt
  • 1/4 tsp ground cayenne
  • 1 15 oz can kidney beans
  • 1 15 oz can clean tomato sauce (no sugar added)
  • 1 can diced tomatoes

Directions:

  1. Heat oil in large saucepan over medium high heat
  2. Add turkey, onion, bell pepper, and garlic; cook, stirring occasionally, for 10 minutes  or until turkey is no longer pink
  3. Add cumin, chili powder, salt, and cayenne pepper; cook, stirring constantly, for 1 minute
  4. Add beans, diced tomatoes and tomato sauce.  Bring to a boil.  Reduce heat to low; gently boil, stirring occasionally, for 15-20 minutes or util thickened.
  5. Serve warm and sprinkle parsley if desired.
Container equivalents:  11/2 green, 1 1/2 yellow, 1 1/2 red

Gluten-Free Italian Mini Meat Loaves

My oldest totally made fun of me when I told him we were having meatloaf for dinner this week!  He says that’s the one food that every show on TV makes fun of.  Well, these gluten-free Italian Mini Meat loaves aint your momma’s meatloaf!;)  Thank goodness because my momma’s meatloaf consisted of ground hamburger, onions,  and ketchup on top.  Yes, I said ketchup!  Of course, it was all we knew so we ate it but now I know better!

My daughter is gluten-free so I have been researching new gluten free recipes when I came across these Gluten-Free Italian Mini Meat loaves and decided to give them a whirl.  They are easy enough and go great with some mashed cauliflower (try it!  Tastes just like mashed potatoes!).  Bonus-everyone in the family ate them!

Gluten-Free Italian Mini Meat Loaves

Gluten-Free Italian Mini Meat Loaves

Ingredients

  • 1 1/4 pound organic grass fed ground beef
  • 1/3 cup gluten free Panko
  • 1/2 cup mozzarella cheese
  • 1 bulb fresh green garlic thinly sliced
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 TBSP Fresh basil thinly sliced

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350
  2. In a large bowl, add all ingredients
  3. Mix well
  4. Spray a muffin tin with cooking spray and fill each cup 3/4 full with the meat mixture
  5. Bake for 20 minutes or until done
