Create Your Dream Job

As a stay at home mom for the last 13 years, I have loved what I do and feel blessed that I have been able to stay home.  When my boys were younger, we struggled a lot financially and I dreamed of finding a way to earn money without having to give up my time with them.  That dream did not seem possible to me at that time though.  It wasn’t until after I had my daughter that this opportunity fell into my lap.  But it was more than just a coincidence that this dream became a reality.  What happened was, I finally decided that I wanted more!  I was ready to work for more!  I created my dream job with hard work and dedication and I continue to do so.

Dreams become a reality when you make a plan

It is true that you CAN have a career that you love and are passionate about.  Your dreams can come true, but you have to be willing to put the work in.  This business is not a get rich quick kind of career.  It’s more of a follow your passion, share your passion, help others, grow as a person and make your dreams come true, kind of career.  The secret to making your dreams into a reality, is to make a plan.  Write down your goals, look at them everyday and make a plan as to how you are going to reach them.  You must get them on paper!  And you must look at them everyday!  Create a vision for what you want your life to look like and create it.

Can I tell you that I genuinely wake up every morning and am actually excited about working!  I love what I do because I see the impact I’m having on others’ lives.  That is the true measure of performance for me.  It’s not the paycheck (though that’s nice), it’s knowing that what you are doing is making a difference. I want to make a difference!

The truth is, this business isn’t for everyone.  We are all unique individuals, created for different purposes.  But if you are reading this and you want more for your life, you want to dream bigger and you’re ready to commit to making your dreams come true, I’m here to tell you that you can!  It is possible!

The longer you wait to do something you should do now, the greater the odds that you will never actually do it.

Stop waiting, stop making excuses as to why you can’t do something,  You are the only one in control of your destination.  You are in the driver’s seat!  I remember when I use to blame everyone and everything for the circumstances of my life.  Do you know where that got me??  Nowhere.  Nothing ever changed because I wasn’t willing to change.  The change has to start with you.  Tell yourself that you can make things happen and you will.  It’s not always easy and I can promise you that you will fail along the way.  That is what makes you stronger!  Learn from your failures and keep pushing through.  There is no way to count the number of times I have failed and continue to fail on my journey.  Without those failures, we would not be who we were meant to be.  These are important life lessons if you are open minded enough to learn from them.  So go ahead and jump in!  No more waiting!

Changing the Face of Beauty

Stella is – Changing the Face of Beauty

My daughter, who happens to have an extra chromosome, was recently a part of a campaign called Changing the Face of Beauty.  Their mission is get companies to use people of all abilities in advertising to help bring awareness and acceptance for all people.  What a beautiful concept, right?!  I’ve been wanting to blog about this since that day she participated in the photo shoot but hadn’t made the time.  But today, something happened at my daughter’s school that broke my heart a little so I figure, it’s the perfect time.

This may seem a little off subject, considering this is a health and fitness page, but don’t worry I will tie it all together!

“Oh no, Not HER again!”

Yep, those were the words out of a little 4 year old boy’s mouth when I walked my daughter into her classroom today.  As I mentioned, my daughter, 31/2, has Down Syndrome, which gets us looks from other adults as well as children.  But this is the first time anyone has said something so negative toward her.  She is a sweet, loving, shy little girl who would not hurt a fly.  Today was her 3rd day of preschool, a new school and she still has a hard time being around other children her age but she is enjoying being there.  She is not violent, or mean in any way.  She is also non-verbal, speaks only in sign language right now.  I have no idea what would make this little boy not want her in the classroom.  Is it because she looks different?  Maybe, it’s because she walks differently than the other 3 year olds? Because it takes her longer to learn things?  Is it because she has a hard time sitting still?  Does her flapping her arms when she gets really excited bother him?

I don’t know what his reasons were but I can guess that he is not use to being around children who are “different” than him. THIS is why INCLUSION is so important!  THIS is why it is so important to get children of all abilities in the media and in advertising!  Children who are never exposed to children of different abilities grow into adults who do not know how to interact with people of different abilities.  And the cycle continues!

Where do we start?

It starts with the parents!  Children do not do what you say, children do what you DO!  Telling your child that he/she needs to be accepting and that they shouldn’t bully, does nothing if they are constantly hearing you make fun of others.  You think it’s okay for you to make a sarcastic comment about someone being overweight, your child hears you!  How do you think they are going to act when they encounter someone who looks “different” than them??  Why must we judge anyway??

Imagine taking your daughter to the American Girl store to pick out a doll that looks just like her.  But wait, there is no doll just like her!  Imagine your child going through the Christmas Toys r Us book, looking for just the right gift to ask Santa for.  “Mommy, why don’t any of these kids look like me?”  “Am I different?”

Now imagine dolls with all abilities in the American Girl store.  Imagine kids with all abilities in the Toys R Us ad.  Now, when your child sees my child out, he doesn’t look at her and think “why does she look different?” because it has become part of the norm.  When my child grows up in the same classroom as your “typical developing” child, she becomes the “norm.”  When we are able to include all children in the classroom, they become the “norm” and we start changing the face of beauty.

How does this tie in to health/fitness?

The reason that I love what I do, is making women feel good about themselves.  My mission is to help women find their confidence and shine, to ensure that women know, that it’s not about size, it’s about how you feel!  What I want is a place where women can support women and not feel that they are not good enough because of what the media tells them they should be.  What I want is to….

Change the Face of Beauty!

Chunky Chickpea Salad

This delicious Chunky Chickpea salad can be served on a slice of whole wheat toast or flat bread or as I prefer over a bed of spinach.  It can also be made with more of an egg like consistency by adding the beans to a food processor.

Chickpea salad

  • 1 (15 oz) can chickpeas/garbanzo beans, rinsed and drained
  • 1/2 cup celery, diced small
  • 1/2 cup red pepper
  • 1/4 cup light or fat free mayo (I actually use plain non-fat Greek yogurt instead)
  • 1 Tbsp mustard
  • 1/4 tsp celery seed
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 2 Tbsp pickle relish

Combine all ingredients and mix well.  ENJOY!

Chunky Chickpea salad

Oh yea, the last time I made this, I added a hard boiled egg also.

Country Heat Meal Plan-Week 2

Week 2 of Country Heat is just about to end for me and I have to tell you, I am loving it a lot more than I ever thought I would!  My week 2 meal plan is included below.  I am typically more of a hard core workout girl- on of the few that really enjoys working out.  Pushing myself and my body to the limits is what I thrive on.  So, it took me by surprise how much I am really enjoying doing this “dancing,” low impact kind of workout. Even though it may be low impact, there is no doubt that you will be covered on sweat at the end.  A serious calorie burner!

As week 2 progresses, I am starting to feel more comfortable with the moves which is making it more fun.  Wonkey Feet is still a real struggle for me but progress is being made slowly.  🙂  Autumn does a great job of breaking down each move so that even someone as uncoordinated as me, can still do them.  It just takes me a little longer and more practice.

Country Heat is Number 1 Beachbody Program

It’s really exciting to be able to announce that Country Heat has taken over as the number 1 Beachbody program, surpassing even the 21 Day Fix!!  That is AMAZING!!  Here is why I think it is already so popular, ANYONE can do this!!  Whether you love working out, hate working out or are somewhere in between, this is the perfect program to help you burn calories.  It doesn’t feel like a work out, except for the sweat dripping off of you.  Country Heat is sure to change lives, hitting a whole new market of people.

Meal Plan

Let’s talk portion control and meal plans!  It’s time to be honest, I had a wonderful meal plan all set in place for this week.  Unfortunately, life happens and everything did not go as plan BUT I didn’t just give up or give in.  I made the best of each situation and pressed on.  Life is going to happen and everything will not always go as planned. That is never a reason to give up on your goals! Pick yourself up and start again!

Here is what my meal plan looked like for week 2 of Country Heat:

Healthy Kid-Approved Pizzas

One of my favorite quick dinners to fix, that everyone will eat, are these healthy kid-approved pizzas!  You can’t beat the simplicity and variability of this recipe.  Since they are individual pizzas, everyone can add their favorite toppings, with no complaining.  🙂  Even better, have your kids help you, by making their own!

Healthy Kid-Approved Pizzas

  • Whole wheat tortillas
  • Clean organic Pizza sauceIMG_8729
  • Shredded Mozzarella cheese
  • Mushrooms
  • Peppers
  • Turkey Pepperoni
  • Spinach
  • Black Olive

Place the whole wheat tortilla on a pizza pan or cookie sheet.  Spread 2-3 Tablespoons of tomato sauce on tortilla then add veggies and meat of choice.  Top with about a tablespoon of Mozzarella cheese and Bake at 350 for about 10 minutes.

Easy Peasy!!

Dare to Dream: What can being a Beachbody coach do for you??

Be Fearless in the Pursuit of What Sets Your Soul on Fire 13938044_10210315700431166_4836558163722647488_o

Sometimes you have to put your fears aside so that you can go after the things you really want.  If it scares you, that’s usually a good sign to jump in.  Too often we let our fears keep us from doing the things we are passionate about.  The things that we are passionate about usually are the things we are destined to do.

What are your dreams?

13958192_10210324489730893_1095695838552950849_oI still remember the dreams I had as a little girl! Dreams that somewhere along the way I told myself were impossible and gave up on.

Not anymore! Now I know better!! Now I know if I’m willing to put in the work, anything is possible! And you better believe that’s the message I’m sharing with all 3 of my kiddos!!

Start today, asking yourself, “Why NOT me?”

I didn’t start this business thinking I was going to make it “big.”  My reason for starting was that I wanted to pay it forward.  I wanted to share my amazing results with others.  As I progressed as a coach, I started to see the difference I was making in people’s lives and my mindset changed.  Through personal development I began realizing that I did have the potential  to make it “big,” I just had to work for it.

Here’s the thing about coaching, it is this AMAZING opportunity!  The potential to earn lots of money IS there!  Opportunity to travel, make new friends, inspire people can be part of being a coach!  BUT it does take WORK!  It does take DEDICATION!  SACRIFICES are even necessary sometimes.

That’s the thing about dreams, they can come true, but you must put in the work.  Successful people always put in the work.  You must overcome your fear of failure.

“Jump in and build your wings on the way down”

Wanna be a Mom Boss?

Being able to work while my daughter naps…??
I’ve been a stay at home mom for 13 years now! It’s not because I didn’t enjoy working, I’ve actually always had a good work ethic. I felt that being home with my kids was where I needed to be! And while times have been hard in the past, I’ve NEVER regret that decision! It was the right one for ME and MY family.

So, imagine how WONDERFUL it is for me to be able to get the best of BOTH worlds now!! I get to stay home with baby girl AND work, doing something I LOVE and get Paid for!! My only regret is that I didn’t find this opportunity sooner!!!?

Back to School Breakfast on the Go- Baked Oatmeal Cups

I don’t know about you, but school is back in session for us!  That means early mornings rushing around trying to make sure everyone catches their buses and gets where they need to be on time! It’s day two and I’m already tired! 😉  How about we try to make our morning just a little less hectic with a healthy on the go breakfast!?  These Back to School, Baked Oatmeal Cups are sure to be a hit with the kiddos in your house!

Start your week off right on Sunday evening by prepping this clean, healthy breakfast that can be grabbed on the go all week long, ready for back to school. For an easy on the go protein to add with it, try a hard boiled egg.  I like to always have hard boiled eggs already prepared for the week so that I can grab them whenever I need some protein.

Baked Oatmeal Cups

1 egg

1 tsp vanilla etract

1 cup applesauce, unsweetened

1/2 cup pumpkin (could also use 1 banana instead)

1/4 cup honey

2 cups Oats

2 TBSP Chia seeds

1 TBSP Ground Cinnamon

1 1/2 tsp baking powder

1/2 tsp salt

1 cup almond milk

Optional Toppings:  blueberries, dark chocolate chips, coconut, pecans, cranberries, raisins

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.  Mix egg, vanilla, applesauce, pumpkin and honey together in a bowl.  Add oats, chia seeds, cinnamon, baking powder, salt and mix well with wet ingredients.  Pour in milk and combine.  Line a 12 cup muffin tin with paper liners.  Divide mixture evenly into muffin tins cups.  Add toppings.

Country Heat Meal Plan Tips

I officially started the Country Heat Meal Plan and Workouts on Monday.  Today is day 3 and things are going very well!  I’m actually already down 3 pounds!  Just goes to show what eating the right foods, portion control and a little fun exercise can do for ya!  So, I wanted to share a few tips with you to get you started off right!

What is Country Heat?

Country Heat is a high-energy, low-impact, country dance-inspired fitness program that is so much fun it doesn’t even feel like exercise!  Well, except for the fact that you will be covered in sweat by the end! The 30 minute dance routines are packed with easy-to-follow moves set to some of the latest country songs.

How does the meal plan work?

If you are familiar with the 21 Day fix program, then you will recognize these colorful containers that come with the Country Heat meal plan.  Country Heat’s nutrition plan is based on clean eating portion control.  When you purchase Country Heat, your kit will come with a set of containers and the nutrition guide will help you calculate what foods to eat and how much, based on your unique goals.

Is the meal plan difficult to follow?

Often, when people first see the containers and meal plan for Country Heat or the 21 Day Fix, they can get overwhelmed.  I felt the same way the first time I saw it.  But it doesn’t take long to figure it all out and then create the habit of healthy eating and portion control.  It’a all about planning!  Once you have it figured out, it really becomes like second nature and makes life so much easier.

Step 1 is is to sit down and go over the nutrition guide provided.  This will give you lots of ideas and explain exactly what it is you need to do.  Next, you will want to figure out how many of each containers that you will be allotted each day.  Calculations for this can be found in your nutrition guide.  Once you have that information, you can get started on planning your meals.

Can I still eat the foods I like?

Think about what kinds of foods you and your family enjoy eating.  For instance, my family eats a lot of chicken and fish with the occasional ground turkey.  That will guide you in the right direction.  There are plenty of meals that you are probably eating that just may need to be tweaked a bit.  For instances, instead of using butter or vegetable oil to cook foods, swap it out for coconut or Olive oil.  Make your fruits and veggies fresh if you can, if not buy them frozen.  Instead of frying your chicken, try baking it.  If you need some ideas for healthy recipes, consider purchasing Autumn Calabrese’s cook book, FIXATE.  It has a ton of family friendly meal, snack and even dessert ideas that would be acceptable for this meal plan!

You may also find it easier to stick with the same foods to eat for breakfast and lunches all week.  That will make meal prepping easier.   Leftovers make for great lunches too.  Below you can find my personal meal plan for week 1 of Country Heat.  If you have not bought this program yet, but would like to, you can do so here.  Buy Country Heat now!
